Ida Red's Cottage specializes in hearty, comforting breakfast fare that highlights fresh, quality ingredients with a delightful homemade touch. The menu showcases a range of scrumptious options, from fluffy scrambled eggs and creative scrambles like the asparagus and parmesan or the savory Italian sausage sandwich, to sweet indulgences such as French toast served with a vibrant fresh fruit cup. Each dish bursts with flavor and texture—the perfectly cooked eggs bring richness and creaminess, while the fruit cups offer a refreshing burst of seasonal sweetness that brightens the palate. The fresh-squeezed orange and grapefruit juices are standout beverages, praised by patrons for their vibrant freshness, squeezed to order right before your eyes. This attention to detail really elevates the breakfast experience here, setting the tone for a satisfying and memorable meal.

Among the fan favorites are Ida Red’s scrambles: the Florentine with baby spinach and mozzarella, the Denver with juicy ham and sharp cheddar, and the Venetian featuring zucchini and romano cheese. These beautifully balanced scrambles reflect a skillful blend of flavors and textures, accompanied by fluffy cottage fries or toast, creating a meal that both comforts and excites. For those craving an extra-special start, the Steak & Eggs offers an eight-ounce Angus sizzler paired with eggs and home-style potatoes, delivering a hearty and satisfying plate that fuels your entire day.

The ambiance at Ida Red’s Cottage matches the simplicity and perfection of its food. The cozy, no-frills interior feels like a treasured local secret, with friendly staff and a relaxed pace that encourages both lively conversation and quiet reflection over your breakfast. In the busier summer months, you might find a lively buzz as visitors and regulars alike wait for a table, often happily grabbing a spot at the counter to enjoy a cup of coffee (priced at an unbeatable $1.50) and soak in the bustling, welcoming vibe.

Community sentiments reflect the genuine charm of this breakfast gem. Regulars rave about the cornmeal pancakes and blueberry muffins that send taste buds into a joyful celebration, while visitors appreciate the fruit plates that offer a beautiful medley of fresh, seasonal produce beyond the typical melons. Many have noted the attentive service and the consistent quality of ingredients that make every trip worthwhile, even when the wait is long. Winter visitors find solace in the quieter, intimate setting, enjoying freshly prepared dishes like the Athena scrambler or the immensely praised French toast, which several guests call the “best” they’ve had in recent memory.

All of the breakfast dishes were good, they just didn't stand out in any way. The exception was the orange juice and grapefruit juice - both were fresh squeezed as we watched. The wait when we arrived (late Sunday morning around 10:30) was 45 to 60 minutes, but we were fortunate to grab two seats at the counter which were 1st-come 1st-served.

We live in Saugatuck and enjoy going for brunch occasionally. We recommend the cornmeal pancakes and blueberry muffins. The omlet/scrambles are fantastic. The winter hours significantly reduce their schedule (open Friday thru Sunday). Because it is so popular, in the summertime, you will have to wait to get in. The location, is right across the street from the water, and in summer there is lots of activity and the town is filled with love and romance. Great place to come with your loved ones. Food here is great. Must go even if you have to wait....it's worth it.

Cute and cozy breakfast joint! Not too busy or difficult to get a seat in the colder months, but expect a longer wait to be seated come summer. Great food all-around, but the muffins and fruit plates definitely stand out! Parking is available in front of the restaurant on both sides of the street.

Get here early because they fill up fast. This place is delicious and a must every time we come to Saugatuck. Griddle cakes are a bit different than a pancake and a must try. The fruit cup is always full of a variety of fruits, not just melons. Do yourself a favor and get a muffin too, you won't regret it!

Saugatuck is pretty deserted in January. My sister and I were craving a nice breakfast on our way back home, and Ida’s was one of the only spots open. Big sis ordered French toast, easy over eggs and sourdough toast. I ordered the Athena scrambler with rye toast. One of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a while. Amazing service. High quality ingredients. Big sis said it was the best French toast she’d ever eaten! Highly recommend.

We were staying nearby (iykyk), and like most hidden gems we found this place because the place we planned to go had an hour long wait. So we ended up here got sat right away and had the most peaceful relaxing breakfast on the porch. The food was delicious but im simple I had the two eggs two sausage meal. My ONLY comment was the Cottage Fries are actually chips and for the life of me scrambled eggs and potato chips . I just couldn't do it. But the stagg was kind enough to bring me a paper bag to.take them with me for later and they were great at lunch time. So if you're in the area skip the obvious option. Also my grandmother's name was Ida.
